I found an awesome tutorial on the Pitlandia blog for a tutu and I couldn't resist making one for Lilly. I was able to get everything I needed at JoAnns fabric and craft store. I went a little overboard and ended up getting 3 different colors of tulle and a flower. Had I stuck with just 1 color of tulle and skipped the flower I would have easily spent $10 which is what the Pitlandia tutorial says to budget for. The materials I got ended up costing around $30 but it was worth it! She looked so stinkin cute!!!
The tulle ends at Lilly's sides and doesn't go under her tummy so she can lay down and go to the bathroom comfortably. It also has a Velcro attachment that fits under her belly so the tutu can be easily put on and taken off. I got glittered tulle but I would recommend NOT getting glittered tulle. The glitter gets EVERYWHERE when you cut the tulle and tie it around the elastic. The Velcro I purchased was the "sew in" type but the needle on my sewing machine broke while I was sewing some other things before I started on Lilly's tutu. I hot glued the Velcro to the elastic band and it worked just fine. Make sure you get the glue on each corner of the Velcro so that it is attached securely.
To "frost" the cake I used alternating layers of peanut butter and traditional/plain Greek Gods brand greek yogurt. While the cake was in the fridge overnight the "frosting" dried up so I added more greek yogurt to the cake when it was served to Lilly. I sliced fresh strawberries and added them as decoration and used Abound grain-free duck and potato treats to add some extra yummies to the cake.
I let her eat way more of the cake at one time than I should have. She ate a little more than half and she had a very upset stomach the rest of the day. Moderation is important!!
Love, Lilly Bug
