Lilly pooped on the carpet. (and TMI! Sorry!) It was not your everyday average poop. This particular poop decided to soak into the carpet in our living room and probably had plans to leave it's stain there forever. I was not about to let that happen. I clean the carpets on the weekends so I usually have carpet cleaner on hand but I ran out last week and keep forgetting to pick some up at the store. So what was I going to clean this poop up with?? I got a little creative. I have learned over the years that cleaning up wet dog poop on carpet is a no-go. It cleans up much easier and leaves less of a stain if you just leave it alone and let it dry. Gross? Absolutely. But I think it's worth it. I let the poop dry overnight and then I spent this morning raiding the kitchen cabinets. I knew I needed vinegar and while I couldn't find regular vinegar I did find white wine vinegar. We don't have any baking soda on hand right now so I grabbed the corn starch. Corn starch for cleaning carpets?? Yes! It can be used as a stain remover, but only in small amounts, especially if you are vacuuming it up. It gets thick and sticky very quickly when wet or heated.
Disclaimer: While this did not cause any discoloration on our carpet I cannot say that it won't on yours. Like with any carpet cleaner, try this on a test area before using it in an obvious/large area.
